Here at Brighter Futures Academy Trust and Luddendenfoot Academy, we believe passionately in ensuring our schools have the very best governors and trustees supporting our pupils, teaching and support staff. Brighter Futures Academy Trust supports its school partners in balancing independence for individual school governance whilst capitalising on the combined capacity and expertise of the organisation for the benefit of all its pupils and staff.
What are the responsibilities of the Local Governing Body?
The Governors’ Handbook, issued by the DfE is for governors, head teachers and governing body clerks in both maintained schools and academies, provides comprehensive information about the core functions of governing bodies, the statutory and legal duties of governing bodies and further signposting to useful resources and guidance. Governors work with the schools to focus on providing robust challenge and positive support to Heads of School, ensuring strong leadership and governance for each school or academy. Their responsibilities include curriculum provision and enrichment, parent and community engagement, monitoring of standards of achievement and the school development plans as well as the safeguarding and well-being of pupils and staff.
Each Local Governing Body is led by a Chair of Governors, whose responsibility it is to build and maintain an effective Governing Body, setting expectations on Governors’ roles and conduct, ensuring each member is making an active and valuable contribution.
How do we support and challenge our schools?
Brighter Futures Academy Trust has a Board of Trustees. The Trustees delegate authority both to central committees, comprising both Trustees and Governors, and to a Local Governing Body (LGB) for each academy in the Trust. The Governors know their school well and are best placed to monitor its performance.
Each LGB includes the Executive Head Teacher, the Head of School and the Chair, all of which are Bright Futures appointments. The LGB is made up of elected staff and parent governors, together with appointed governors with a range of skills. We place great importance on working closely with our LGBs as they are essential to our Trust’s success.
