We believe that all pupils can achieve in Art and Design ; that high-quality Art lessons will inspire children to think innovatively and develop creative procedural understanding. Our Art and Design curriculum provides planned opportunities for our children to be creative and to express themselves. As well as exploring British artists, our pupils undertake in depth studies of both artists, architects, designers and sculptures from the past as well as these from other cultures and societies, helping to develop the children’s cultural capital.

Children will be given a range of experiences including drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, and sculpture with the opportunities to explore and evaluate different creative techniques. As children progress through the school, the art curriculum allows them to build upon prior knowledge and skills, allowing them to apply these to a new context.  In Art, children are expected to be reflective and evaluate their work, thinking about how they can make changes and develop their mastery of Art and Design techniques. It is paramount that art work be purposeful; be this as a means of expression or to explore the styles of other artists. Through hands-on experiences, we aim to create a love of art in which children as artists are inspired by famous artists and to plan and evaluate their own work

The teaching of our Art and Design curriculum embraces our MIRROR values: motivated, integrity, respect, reflect, open-minded, resilient. By focusing on these key priorities, at the heart of our curriculum, we believe our children will be ready to successfully meet the challenges of the next stages of their education
